Comic Book movies

Codes and conventions for superhero movies
most superhero movies all have very similar feature in the film. they normally all have a part at the start of the film where the superhero gets their powers through some sort of accident or they discover they have super powers or can also be turned into a superhero they can start to learn how to use them. They also normally have a enemy against them that also has some sort of super powers and is usually trying to take over the world and the superhero needs to stop them. The superhero also normally gets a girlfriend and she is normally also needing to be saved by the superhero.

Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) — Art of the Title

captain America is very similar to these codes and conventions as he is turned into a superhero and develops super strenght and the ability to throw his shield and hit things with it. like most superhero movies captain America also gets a girlfriend however she isn't like the stereotypical damsel in distress type of character and is a stringer type of women unlike women in other superhero movies such as spider man. the bad guy in captain America is also a stereotypical villain as he is a super villain and was also experimented on like captain America although his experiment went wrong and so he has all the powers captain America has and so is quite a stereotypical super villain.
Mise en scene
The opening scene for captain America has a range of stereotypical pictures to do with America and its history. It opens with uncle Sam saying "I want you" which is a poster that was used in world war 2 to try to get Americans to join the US army. this relates to captain America as he wasn't able to join the army because he was to small and weak but by becoming captain America he became the face of the American army much like uncle Sam. their are also a range of clips of image from world war 2 and shows the main Americans side of the war with the American plains, uncle Sam and the show girls that went to entertain the American troops. the colours in the background of the clip also show the mood of the war and the darker backgrounds show the more dark and horrible side of the war and connotes the death and sorrow of the war where as the red, white and blue show the hope the Americans had and the happier times.
camera angles
A range of camera angles are used in the opening credits of  captain America. close ups, rolling shots, tracking shots and quick cuts are all used throughout the clip to show the action in the movie and to also show all the clips in detail and highlight the fact that it is American and that captain America is a American hero its also is used to make it look like a comic book and to also show all the old war posters used to get more recruits.
Sound
The music is captain America is quite parallel and digetic to the film as it is quite a celebrator kind of music and can celebrate captain America saving the world. It also matches the posters in the opening scene as it sounds like stereotypical American music that would be used in world war two and would be used at an American award ceremony.
Editing
A range of quick cuts are used though out the clip and they are used to show the stereotypical war posters hat would have been used in the war. the images have also been edited on to make them look more like a cartoon and s match the fact its based on a comic book hero and to also show its a marvel movie and matches the marvel opening of the comic book.
