science fiction

Star Wars
one of our options to pick for our next film is sci-fi and star wars can give me inspiration and also some ideas.

Codes and Conventions
All science fition film norml are set in space or in the future and star wars in alot like this as it is set in space. they also normally involve humans fighting back against aliens of some sort. This sort of fits with star wars however there are alien on both sides and so dosent fit the usual steriotypical aliens taking over the world type of sci-fi. you instantly know from the start of star wars that it is a sci-fi because of the location, editing, mise en scene and camera angles used just in the first 2 minutes.

Mise En Scene
You can instantly see from the opening scene that the film is set in space and this can also be seen when you see the spaceship, robots and spacesuits been worn by the men on the ships. you also can see the space blaster props that are used which again tell us it is set in space or perhaps in the future. we can also see from the clip that they are fighting about something but we don't yet know what about. it is all very high key lighting as well and this is use to show the lasers and the space location.
you see from the facial expressions that they are all very worried about who is going to be coming through the door.
Sound
through out the star wars opening scene there is a constant orchestra playing that is digetic to the action going on in the scene as it speeds up when more action is going in the scene such as the when the ships are shooting at each other. Sound fx are also used in the scene where they are both shooting each other and the sound of the lasers are done by using sound effects.
Camera Angles
a  range of camera angles are used in the opening scene of star wars it starts with a tilt shot that goes up and turns into a establishing shot to show the location and show they are fighting in space. it also has rolling and tracking shots to show how hectic it is on the ship and follows the troops as they go to try to stop the enemy getting on the ship. lots of close ups are used to show the emotion on the faces of the soldiers and you can clearly see that they are quite scared.
Editing
A range of editing techniques are used to show the location of the scenes and to also show that the film will be set in space. you also see special effects when the lasers are fired as the laser beams are all done using very good effects. Special effects are also used when they brake through the door and the enemy come through.
Creativity
star wars is very creative because it was one of the first space movies done and was the most impressive with special effects. the story line of star wars is also very creative and the characters, locations and editing used also creates and sets the scene.
